Vampire cause the werewolf has only disease resistance outside of it's transformation, while the vampire has plenty of benefits and the downsides can be easily alleviated. Each race gets an additional benefit as a werewolf/werebear and you also get some bonus stats based on your highest weapon/armor skills when you transform, which helps keep werewolves keep up in endgame. They are both melee and range and have good magicka spells. The druid spells are pretty neat and some of them can even compliment werewolves pretty well.
I don't do perks though, because that'd require eating people and even though I'm a werewolf, that still feels like cannibalism, which I am against. You also get no well rested bonus.

I think the mod nicely balances out the werewolf tree and also provides some utility by leveling up your highest weapon and armor skills as a werewolf so it's not so disconnected from your normal self.
I go with Vampire Lord over Werewolf simply because it's easier to use. I use 5 amulet of talos for my shouts which doesn't have recharge time. Vampire lord or werewolf for a pure melee build.
