There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Posted in General Discussion, Linus Media Group Now I have a question. I have a Corsair RMX 850 V2 (2018) and recently bought an Asus RTX 2070 Super Rog Strix OC Gaming. Posted in Networking, By That's what I did with my old setup. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Started 32 minutes ago You can use either one, most people recommend using two separate cables. I believe your power supply is single-rail. You cannot change the configuration as the unit does not support Corsair Link. Posted in Storage Devices, By However, the new PSU apparently only came with these kinds of cables.. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place. Are there any downsides to doing this though? Posted in Graphics Cards, By

18AWG is the standard on most modern supplies, with 16AWG being used for super heavy duty applications. GOTSpectrum If this isn't an option, check your PSU manual. This jaystwocents video shows two cables is (slightly) better than one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL7KIVI_hJg&t=1s. Posted in General Discussion, By That particular PSU uses 16g, which is better than the typically used 18g (a lot of the aftermarket cables, like the sleeved ones, only use 18g). Now i know that this is a quality power supply but if that´s the difference two cables can make i wan´t to do it.

" If your card uses a 6 pin and an 8 pin, then the max it's ever going to look to draw from pcie power is 225W, and that is way above what a 1080 will ever draw without heavy overclocking. So OBVIOUSLY it's ALWAYS a better idea to use as many conductors as possible. Started 10 minutes ago Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a r7 3700x. Such a pain to see a $120 PSU not be prepared for top notch cards. Although it should be fine to use a cable with multiple connections.

Jex I don´t know what it means exactly or how to find out from the box or the manual whether it is single or multi rail. That PSU should come with 6 PCIe cables each with only 1 connector on them, 4 x 6+2 pin and 2 x 6 pin. Careful with mixing cables from different PSUs.

I came across an article saying you shouldn't use just the Y split cable that came with the psu.

Obviously the best situation would be to use two separate set of cables to split the current draw and make heat a complete non-issue even if you had shitty 20AWG cabling, but then you have to think about whether routing another set of cables will have any impact on airflow.

That'll have more impact on performance than having current over two sets of pcie cables. Posted in General Discussion, By

Started 17 minutes ago The Y split means you'll be pulling more current over one set of cables, but so long as they aren't super thin 20 gauge cables they will still be able to supply up to ~280W without any noticeable heat. #2. I have an evga 850bq psu and an Asus Rog strix 1080 gpu. SamXevor The gpu has 2 8 pin connectors so i wonder if it is worth it to use two separate 6+2 pin pcie cables instead of one cable with two 6+2 pin pcie connectors. Connecting the two 8-pin connectors with two separate non daisy chained cables is fine. I don´t mind the extra cable and mess if the results in the video are correct. Tedz002 As current goes up, resistance goes up, voltage goes down, so to meet a required wattage, more current needs to be delivered, and voltage goes down more. Right now I have it powered by 1 PCIe 6pin + 8(6+2) pin cable. From the PSU side of things, the power is all being generated on one rail anyway (as long as it's a relatively modern psu, atx 2.3+), so you won't gain any efficiency benefits. You can actually do either, using the single daisy chain cable or 2 separate cables with the 2070 since that's not really a high power draw GPU. Typically using two separate cables is more stable if you're overclocking. Posted in General Discussion, By Started August 31, By It uses 18AWG for the pcie cables, so your 1080 is going to be comfortably well below the stressing factor of the cable, even with all current over one set.
